She spoke of over a decade of her life where every season she changed out the clothes in the suitcase she planned to take with her when she left. Ironically, the same Tiiffany blue suitcase was her “going away” suitcase when she married. Winter sweaters replaced summer dresses and years passed. That blue “going away” bag popped into my head so many times when I learned of someone who was waiting for the right time to leave. HALF LIFE came out of that space. I recognized the patterns in relationships marked by emotional abuse. Not one catastrophic moment, but a series of small constraints that only reveal themselves over time. HALF‑LIFE is about a woman who is smart and capable and still trapped. Motherhood complicates the question.
