After losing her fiancé in a brutal carnival accident, Sarah, a writer by trade, struggles to move on and dispel her grief. Fraught with deadlines from her agency and impersonal advice from her disengaged therapist, she only manages to find moments of solace when she sleeps. It is in these medicated, deep-state REM cycles that she eventually discovers an entity who she believes to be her late fiancé.

Sarah becomes a hermit, spending more and more time asleep, as the lines between dream and reality blur. The deeper she goes, the more cryptic the entity becomes, as darkness closes in around them and something much more sinister encroaches on her soul. In her waking state, Sarah seeks out a reclusive widow for help, and learns that the entity in her dreams may be connected to the death of both their partners. As the entity pits the women against each other, Sarah must decide between letting go of her fiancé forever or joining the entity and losing herself in the shadows of her subconscious.
